How quickly can I get an appointment?
We pride ourselves on availability - especially for hygiene appointments where other practices have months-long waiting lists. We typically have same-week availability for hygiene appointments, and new patient examinations can usually be booked within 1-2 weeks.

Do you cater for nervous patients and children?
Absolutely. Our gentle, empathetic approach puts even the most anxious patients at ease. We specialise in early orthodontics for children aged 7-10 with Invisalign First (rare for most practices), and our dental therapist is particularly wonderful with nervous children. We take time to listen, explain everything clearly, and never rush - your comfort is our priority.
Can you help with a dental emergency?
Yes, we understand that dental emergencies don't wait for convenient times. We reserve emergency appointment slots and provide same-day urgent care when possible. Our experienced team will assess your situation and provide immediate relief and treatment.
How often should I visit the hygienist?
It’s generally recommended to see a dental hygienist every six months, although the frequency may vary depending on your oral health. Some patients may need more frequent visits if they have gum disease or are prone to plaque build-up.
Is teeth cleaning painful?
No, teeth cleaning should not be painful. If you experience discomfort, let your hygienist know. They can adjust the pressure or recommend numbing gel if necessary, especially if you have sensitive gums or teeth.
Can I get a dental hygiene appointment without seeing the dentist?
Yes! With Direct Access, you can book an appointment with our hygienist without needing a referral from a dentist. However, if we notice any issues during your hygiene visit, we may recommend scheduling an appointment with your dentist for further care.
How can I maintain good oral hygiene at home?
We recommend brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and using mouthwash to help remove bacteria. Regular visits to the hygienist and dentist will also support your efforts and help maintain your oral health.
Will teeth cleaning help with bad breath?
Yes, professional cleaning can help eliminate bacteria and plaque build-up, both of which can contribute to bad breath. If bad breath persists, our team can help identify the cause and recommend further treatment if needed.
Is Invisalign suitable for everyone?
Invisalign is suitable for most people, including both adults and teens, and can address a range of orthodontic issues such as crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, and crossbite. During your free consultation at The Oakwood Clinic, our orthodontist will assess your needs and determine if Invisalign is the right treatment for you.
How long will my Invisalign treatment take?
The duration of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case. Typically, treatment can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months, but our orthodontist will give you an estimated timeline during your consultation here in Oakwood.
Will Invisalign be uncomfortable?
Invisalign aligners are custom-made for your teeth, and while they may feel slightly tight or uncomfortable when you first wear them, this is normal and usually subsides within a few days. The aligners are made of smooth plastic, so they’re gentle on the inside of your mouth compared to traditional braces.
Can I eat and drink with my Invisalign aligners?
No, it’s recommended to remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. This helps prevent any staining or damage to the aligners, ensuring the best results. Invisalign aligners are removable, but should be worn for at least 22 hours every day.
How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?
To keep your aligners clean, rinse them with lukewarm water and use a toothbrush to gently clean them. Avoid using toothpaste as it can scratch the aligners. You can also use the Invisalign cleaning system or a mild soap solution.

What happens at a new patient examination?
Your first visit includes a warm welcome and detailed discussion about your dental history and concerns. We'll conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, take two standard X-rays for complete assessment, and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.
Where is your clinic based?
We're located at 19 Reservoir Road, Oakwood, N14 4BB - just a 5-minute walk from Oakwood Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line. We offer free street parking (except between 2-3pm) and our practice is fully wheelchair accessible.
